1. Please introduce yourself.

This whole page is basically me introducing myself lol

2. How long have you been making websites?

I started this site on April 14, 2024 (damn I didn't realise it's been that long) but I've been kind of working on it on and off. Also often delete everything and redo my site sooo

3. And what got you into the hobby?

I think the first time I came across the indie web was from cinni's dream home. I went down a bit of a rabbit hole after that and thought it was really cool. I also remember watching a video on the indieweb from andou. Both of these got me interested in learning to code my own site and I learned basic html/css from either starting my site or making profiles on toyhouse (not entirely sure which one came first)

4. What kind of website are you most interested in?

I really like seeing really pretty and decorated sites. It's also really cool if there's lots to read, like oc lore or blog entries

5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?

I stumble in blind with absolutely 0 plan of what I'm doing and just kind of fiddle around until I'm happy with the result lol

6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.

7. What's your favourite part about making websites?

When you finally have a layout that you're happy with after spending hours playing with the code and torturing your laptop with 238490 open tabs ahaha- also collecting stamps and blinkies

8. And the thing you struggle with the most?

Probably writing. I HATE trying to express my thoughts in coherant words and sentences so that's probably the hardest part

9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?

Different :D I get bored of the same layout lol

10. How confident are you with CSS?

I know enough to cobble together something I'm happy with but if you took my code and gave it to professional webdev (or used it on a mobile display) they would probably be like wtf is this

11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?

12. What is your favourite HTML element?

13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?

make a div, call it main-container, and set a small width and margin auto

14. Do you know JavaScript?

Barely. I can understand it enough to fiddle around with pre-made code

no

16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?

Nah. I'd get bored of restricting myself to one theme

Design. I do want to focus on adding more content tho

Nope. Maybe in the future? It isn't really that important to me tho

Probably not

they're fun and I like them

I think they're fun to look at and I love surfing through different sites through them

I kind of am starting my site all over lol

24. Are you envious of other people's websites?

Not really envious. I just get really inspired when I see sites I like and it motivates me to work on mine

They're all just on neocities. Sometimes I use filegarden

28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?

They're both cool! I personally use neocities since there's more sites there and I can follow more sites on neocities itself, but I also think nekoweb is super cool and I really love the site boxes they have

29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?

uhhh idk right now probably not THAT much but it'll probably jump once I add all my art here lol

30. Do you keep local backups of your files?

Thanks this just reminded me to do that

31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?

Both have their charm

32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?

Maybe?? I really like super colourful designs tho

Yeah I regularly go through phases of deleting everything because I don't want my old cringe thoughts on the internet lol

I have one friend who I got to make a site but I don't think she's updated it in a while :(

I've only told one person but if my friends find my site they'll probably immediately know it's me lol

I have bursts of hyperfixation where I do nothing except update my site then forget about it for like 6 months. I really want to keep at it regularly tho

37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?

I rarely change designs once I've finished coding it

Me focused or interest focused ig?

I have considered doing it as a job in the future (still a student rn who has no idea what I want to do)! I think it'd be a nice creative job that isn't drawing focused (I don't want to end up hating art if I do it as a job). I'll need to learn how to actually do css / html that isn't super scuffed tho

41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?

Only for school. I check my personal email once in a blue moon

42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?

I have an art account that I've been trying to use more regularly. I tend to periodically forget about my socials tho

43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?

44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?

Yeah I need that constant background noise lol. Either random video essays or music (been listening to lots of vocaloid songs and covers lately)

45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?

I like having everything on one site

Nope. I want the freedom to do whatever I want on this site

I feel like the way I design and talk on this site is more authentically "me" than anywhere else lol

No :( I'm way too socially inept and anxious for that lol. Maybe in the future

50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?

Hmm idk. I feel like people should be able to do whatever they want on their sites. After all, at least for me, personal sites should primarily be for the webmaster's enjoyment, and you can just click off if you don't like something. Ig one thing is copy pasting whole layouts from someone else. Don't do that. OH ALSO AUTOPLAY- Let me play the music If I want

51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?

Idk either. Just have fun guys :D

52. Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?

Everything is div div and more div...

53. Do you consider different browsers?

Sometimes I get bored and download 483290 new browsers to play with. And then I decide I've had my fun and go back to using floorp (a firefox fork) lmao

54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.

Floorp!! It's a firefox fork so no chromium (yay)! I use it with the sidebery extension for vertical tabs and auto-unload after a few minutes so I can have 24320 tabs open without killing my laptop lol

55. And what OS are you on?

Mac something something

56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?

Not really. My parents like apple so that's the laptop they got me

57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?

No, sorry.

58. What are your thoughts on autoplay?

No!! I don't want sudden loud music or noises playing in my ears. Let me play if I want

I think they're cool! I want to join some soon

I love seeing shrines! I really want to create some in the future but I find it kind of difficult to write coherent sentences to put in the shrines

Idk

62. What is your ideal website? Are you striving for that, or for something else?

Idk. I just want something that makes me happy to look at and that has a decent amount of content on it

Yeah. I don't really design my own web assets tho since I prefer doing illustrations or live2d rigs. When I'm coding I prefer focusing on just coding and not have to go between art and code

65. Is there a habit you just can't get away from no matter how hard you try?

Line breaks using <br>. It's just too tempting

66. What's your biggest advice for a new webmaster?

Just start!!! Even if your code is one big cobbled together mess, you'll learn a lot from it and you can make it better later. Also, w3schools is your friend. A lot of it, esp in the beginning, is just googling "___ css" after ever other line and ending up on w3schools lol

67. Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?

Sometimes hardcoded if I'm lazy and if it's just for a certain use case. I also hard-code width on images a lot

68. What do you think of frameset layouts?

Ehh I personally don't like using them

69. How about table-based layouts?

I use them for, well, tables in some of my pages but never for the whole thing (I usually use grids or flexbox)

70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?

I really like layouts with one main, big column and one or two smaller, side columns

71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?

I do both simultaneously

72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.

Only for pages that aren't that important. For the most part, CSS and styling is the fun part for me.

73. Do you ever find yourself making layouts with nothing to put on them? Or do you only make layouts when the need arises?

I wish I could. I think that'd be fun, but I design my pages alongside the content so I can't really do that unless I have the content to work around

Beginner ig. A lot of my code is pretty scuffed lol and entirely self-taught but I know enough to make passable layouts without ending up on w3schools every 20 seconds

75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?

Not really. Only if something really catches my eye and I want to see how they did it

76. How did YOU learn how to make websites?

I think I started by editing profiles on toyhouse? I got some very minimal html/css knowledge from that and just started making my site through constantly searching up how to do this and that and messing around until it worked.

77. Do you ever force elements to do things they're not supposed to?

Probably..

78. Thoughts on floating elements?

I use them sometimes, but only if really necessary because I find them kinda iffy to use. I used to use them all the time tho lol before I knew how to use grids and flexbox

79. When you're sizing stuff, what do you use first? Do you use px, em, %, or something else?

Usually px for main containers or images. % for elements inside things. I also use vh for margins below or above main divs but idk if that's the best practice

80. Do you have a favourite font?

I use basiic and yoster a lot for my site

81. Would you run a website with another person? How would that work?

No. I like making my site for myself and my interests. I'd be happy to code something FOR another person tho, but not maintain a site with them

Yeah!! It's so fun

83. Do you bookmark other people's websites? How would you feel knowing someone else bookmarked yours?

Sometimes. I have a lot of sites just open in my tabs but haven't actually bookmarked a lot yet... It would make me really happy :)

84. What do you want people to be most impressed with when they see your website?

I'm not sure. I just hope it makes them happy in some way or maybe even inspire someone?

Not really

Too much lmao. Luckily I don't doomscroll but I spend a lot of time browsing the indieweb or making stuff on my laptop or ipad

87. When it comes to your website, who is your target audience?

Don't really have one. I just want to code a site that makes me happy and maybe some like-minded people can enjoy it too :D

what even is that.

Not really. Unless you count the VERY minimal code that comes with ren'py and rpgmaker. I've dabbled in trying to learn godot before but gave up lol.

90. Speaking of programs that help you make websites, what do you think of static site generators (SSGs)? Have you ever used one?

I've never used one but I'd be interested in learning how to use them

I used to. I don't have one anymore since I don't really want to see numbers

I've started playing on toyhouse forum games when I hyperfixate on my ocs. It's so fun and I've started enjoying reading about other people's ocs. Also, it makes me so happy when people comment on my ocs

Directly into the editor. I write my content and style it at the same time (I do my css around my content and vise versa)

ALL THE TIME - I keep going through phases of only working on my site then deleting almost everything a few months later. It's a habit I should probably stop doing...

Hm.. I think I reveal more than I do on most other platforms or irl settings. As I said, I tend to delete things if I share too much then get embarassed later tho lol

AHAH I'M DONEEEE

1.) Introduce yourself! What kind of art do you make?

I go by the inferior chopstick for most of my art socials! I mainly do digital art, mainly illustrations and short films (animatics but fully coloured and shaded). I'm also trying to learn live2d and blender rn. Been also trying to do more traditional art, mainly painting and oil pastels. I also prefer doing most sketches and art studies traditionally.

2.) How long have you been making art?

I've been the art kid at school since like kindergarten so basically for as long as I remember.

3.) How many hours do you spend for each piece?

Depends on what type of art it is. For most illustrations, usually between 2-8 hours

4.) Do you prefer taking your time or do you like to quickly move on to the next thing?

I usually either finish something in one or two sittings, or keep chiseling away at the rendering for a really long time (I like having something there to just pull out and render when I'm bored). If it stays too long, I usually get tired of it though and I move on to the next thing

5.) When do you decide a piece is finished?

When I get bored of staring at it and it's good enough to slap on some tone curves and sparkles as a finishing touch

6.) What part of the creation process do you enjoy the most?

The finishing touches! Adding tone curves and chromatic abberation and all sorts of effects, then slapping on some sparkles! And then turning them on and off to see the difference it makes!!

7.) What part of the creation process do you dislike the most?

Flat colours / base shadows. I struggle a lot with picking nice colours and it always looks so UGLY in this stage!! Really gotta convince myself to trust the process in this stage lol

8.) Do you have a designated workstation or do you just work wherever?

I draw on my ipad so it's wherever. It's great bc I can just pull it out and draw when I'm bored outside (or in class..)

9.) Do you monetize you work or is it purely a hobby?

Just a hobby. I do want to try doing commissions, though. I'm also considering doing something art related as a job in the future (still a student rn)

I have an art instagram that I kind of update on and off. I also put some stuff on toyhouse sometimes. Idk though. I really want to have art socials that I consistently maintain but I forget about them a lot :( Maybe this website will help with that once I get my gallery pages working?

Idk I think it just depends on the piece

Everything!!! Idk I think I just want to keep doing studies in everything and become an art god >:D

I mean, I don't think you can really reach mastery in anything without experimenting, right? I think generally I lean towards trying to get really good at the same few things but I really should experiment more with other mediums or techniques

Hmm not as often as I would like. But I do a lot of figure or head studies when I'm bored

Just have a general idea and start sketching. If I want to get more serious with the piece I collect some reference / inspo images and do a few thumbnails.

Stop drawing and do something else and come back later. Or scroll through pinterest or instagram to look at pretty art other people have made which tends to inspire me

I've done a few commissions in the past. I find it difficult to maintain doing them tho bc the initial interest wears off and I don't want to draw that specific commission style anymore
