Every "concept" has a star attached to them. This includes objects, people, thoughts, ideas, etc. Every time a new concept is created or conjured, a new star is born.

When Selecian starcalling is used, it's basically drawing upon the power of these stars into the physical world. For example, to conjure up fire, the constellation used would have the stars for heat, light, etc. This can be thought of like a language, where each star is a syllable and each constellation a word. In fact, constellations were actually used as a language in the past (see Alvanian)

As a constellation is conjured up, their respective stars in the night sky brighten for the moment. This also happens outside of magic use, such as when a concept is being thought of or discussed, or when an object is being used. Thus, the brighter a star or constellation, the more it is being remembered within the world, whether it be through speech, use, etc.

If a concept is forgotten, it slowly dims until it completely dies. A forgotten star falls upon the earth as a shard known as a star fragment. They contain little to no Alvanos force within them.

personal constellations

Every person has a constellation connected to them. This is innate knowledge to the person themselves-- it's something they are just born knowing. It's often kept very secret, as if another person knows someone's constellation, they can use it to call spells on them (essentially gaining all power and control over that person-- VERY dangerous). As such, one's constellation is heavily guarded information that may not even be disclosed to parents for some people (ooc note: this is essentially the Aklaesian version of internet doxing and don't share your social security number haha).

• Story note: this was used by Volei when trying to summon Marilyn. Because he couldn't find records of Marilyn Miste's constellation in the archives AND/OR maybe it's bc he summoned her with isabelle soraya's constellation, he knew her real name wasn't Marilyn.

A constellation can be pieced together if enough information is known about a person (eg. birthday, bloodline, etc-- all permanent info; nothing like hobbies or interests or whatnot), but you would have to know the person really well and trial and error the overall structure of the constellation.

When a person dies, it is believed that their soul leaves their physical body to be infused with their constellation. As such, there are customs performed by loved ones to prevent their constellation from being forgotten and falling, as that would essentially mean the death of their soul as well.
